To become a professional driver you must have a thorough knowledge of the regulations that apply to the transport industry.
The theory test consists of two elements. A multi choice section that contains 60 random selected multi choice questions. The second element to the test is the 'Hazard Perception'.
The theory test questions can be found in 'the Official Theory Test for drivers of Large Vehicles' book published by the DSA, available from the Enterprise LGV Tuition reception, or as part of our 'Starter Pack'.
To assist you in preparing for the theory test you are strongly advised to study the books that the questions are originally taken from;
. The Highway Code
. Know your Traffic Signs
. Driving - the Essential Skills
. Driving Goods Vehicles
Again, these books are available from Enterprise LGV Tuition.
You are given 70 minutes to answer the 60 questions. You must answer 51 or more to pass this section of the test. The questions are shown on a touch screen at the test centre. You are required to answer the questions by touching the correct answer on the screen. If you are unsure on how to use the screen you can work through the practice session before the test that can last up to 15 minutes.
After finishing the time, time permitting, you can look through your answers and change your answers if you wish.
Provision for Special Needs
If you require any assistance, certain help is available. There is an "English Language Voiceover' available on headset if you have reading difficulties or dyslexia. You can also ask for double the time allowed to take the test. You will, however, be required to provide a letter from a teacher, psychologist or doctor who can confirm your difficulties.
The introduction can also be delivered in British Sign Language if you are deaf or have hearing difficulties.
Certain Test Centres will allow a translator if you have difficulties in reading or speaking English. The translator must be approved by the DSA.
