As a professional LGV driver you will be required to restrain your load securely taking into account the nature of the goods that you are carrying. The load must be

. Suitable for the type of vehicle being used to carry the load
. Stable and securely stowed
. Within the size and weight limits of the vehicle

Usual devices for securing the load are

. Tarpaulin sheets
. Ropes
. Chains
. Straps, (various types of ratchet straps)

When using tarpaulin, plastic or nylon sheeting, it must be secured in such a way that it doesn't become loose and create a hazard to other road users. If you need to use more than one sheet, they need to be secured in a certain way, using dolly knots - effectively. Dolly knots remain taut in transit but can be released easily.

The Rope and Sheeting course covers all aspects of carrying loads safely using sheets, ropes, chains and ratchet straps.

All successful candidates passing the course receive a Certificate of Achievement.

PLEASE NOTE:
Carrying a load that is not properly secured could result in a fixed 3 point endorsement on your driving licence (offence code CU50) and a hefty fine!
